I. Fresh Paper, Straight Edge
After the recent passing of my grandfather and grandmother, I came across their oldest photograph album. I found pictures of events including their first date, a dangerous hike up Long’s Peak, and cross-country road trips. In most of the scenes my grandparents were the age that I am now, and I realized that although I had known my grandparents for all of my life, I knew them for a relatively short period of their lives. I found myself drawn to these windows into unspoken memories, and I began to imagine the flood of people, places, emotions, and experiences that filled my grandparent’s history. I saw their stories—stories written invisible ink—through the lens of my own experiences, and these movements emerged as musical snapshots of two lives well lived.
